Just call me Roly

There are more rolls on my body than you’ll find at your Thanksgiving table or on a Chinese Shar-Pei. Hence, the self-assigned nickname, Roly.  I’m short, obese and over forty years old.  Egad, when did this happen!  Egad, when did I start using the term “Egad”!  Not sure about that, but I do know that I’ve been short and obese for a couple of decades now.  I can hardly believe I am in my 40’s, but there is no disbelief about the obesity.

I need to skip the dinner rolls and lose my fat rolls.  More importantly I need to better my health.  This morning I weighed 387 pounds. Wow, did I just write that? I'm not a linebacker but I weigh one in real life.  Well a 5'3" linebacker.  You might be asking yourself how does a person let themselves get to be 387 pounds.  Couldn't they do something at 187 pounds or stop themselves at 287 pounds?  I wish I had but I didn't. Nothing can be done to change the past, what’s done is done. I can only work to shape my future and I don't want to weigh 487 pounds someday.  In fact, I don't want to weigh a pound more than 387 pounds.  I need to do something about it and I need to start today.

As big of a cliché as it may be, my plan is to eat less and move more.   Changing the types of food I eat is also necessary.  I eat meals prepared away from the house probably 80% of the time and that’s no joke. As a diabetic, I would like to eat less sugar and grains, if any at all.  Going from a ton to none will take some work, but I am serious about improving my health, so I know it can be done.  I have been living a sedentary lifestyle for a long time now.  Standing for too long or walking distances is painful, so I just don’t do it very often.  Not good.  My plan is start with walking.  I’ll start small, but push myself.  Each week or so, I will increase the distance and amount of activity.  The point is to start moving and not stop pushing myself.

In a nutshell, I need to lose weight and improve my health.  I'll use this forum to track my progress and share any useful information I might come across.  All support and advice is welcome.  Thank you for stopping by.

  2. Thanks for stopping by my blog and welcome! You will find some wonderful support here in the blogosphere! You seem to have the perfect plan in place - it's never too late and you're never too large to start exercising. Once you get processed food, white flour and sugar out of your system you won't even want it anymore.

Have you heard of My Fitness Pal? It's a free website and app I use to track everything I eat as well as my exercise. It's so easy! I'm tinaatl on there if you join you can "friend" me.

Good luck with your journey! I will be cheering you on!

  6. I wish you well and wanted to tell you that you can absolutely do this. I know firsthand how hard it is to carry around a lot of excess weight and how worth it for you to lose those "rolls" you are talking about.

I'm with Cammy and breaking out the virtual pom-poms for you!!

  8. Sounds like a solid plan so far, the biggest struggle I face is keeping motivated and sticking to the plan EVEN when I don't see results, that is the hardest part for me. but I find hope in the little victories like enjoying a big salad, being able to work out a little bit more each time and feeling better in a pair of pants. I look forward to reading your journey :)

  12. Good morning. Thank you for stopping by yesterday. I came by this morning just to check in and found I wanted to stay a while and ready a bit. So here I am at the beginning of your journey.
You took the biggest step but just figuring out the start. You can do this. Yes it will take time, lots of time, but remember your didn't get to be heavy overnight so just have patience and it will happen.
I am sorry about your step dada passing but so glad you are spending time with your mama. You might have to, one day that is, explain to her your healthy plan so that she can help you along with it.
Good luck and I'll be stopping back to check up on you.
Take care and have a blessed day.
Now, for today...do your best and let the Lord do the rest.

  13. It's amazing how it all just creeps up on you, isn't it? Even just a pound a week. But that can also be how weight loss goes -- even just a pound a week :) Looking forward to following your journey!
