Surprised by Weigh-In

While at my mom’s last week, I was able to drink plenty of water and take some very short walks.  My eating however was not great.  On the positive side, all meals were prepared at home, rather than fast food or dining out.  My mother INSISTED on cooking (seriously, this woman is THE most stubborn person I know).  I had red meat every night and larger-than-I-should-have-had portions.  I was expecting a gain on the scale this week.  This morning, I stepped on the scale, crossed my fingers and waited for the report out.  To my utter surprise, I lost five pounds.  I won’t try to figure out that one and just be thankful.

My step-father is weak and pretty much confined to the bed now.  I don’t think he will be with us much longer, but you never know.  My mother was glad that I had made the trip and is feeling somewhat rested (or so she says).  She is burning through her vacation, as he cannot be left alone at this point and refuses to go to a nursing home.   She sent me home, but I will check with her this weekend and see if I should make another trip over.  She lives about 350 miles away.  I wish it was closer.

Now that I am home this week, I want to eat well this week.  My plan is to stick to whole foods, eat little to no grains, dairy or sugar. This means thinking ahead and planning lunches will be key since I usually end up eating whatever crap (Barf) I can find at the cafeteria.  For the first time in I don’t know how long, we don’t have any chocolate in the house.  I may be pulling my hair out in the evenings this week, but I need to break my addiction to sweets and routine snacking.

In the past, tracking my food intake seemed to cause me to think before eating, resulting in less being consumed.  This week, I will start tracking every bite via MyFitnessPal.  If you have an account and want to connect, my user id is LosingTheRolls.

Finally, we can see the sun in Seattle.  No, really we can.  Blue skies surround me and I hope they stick around a while.  I am extremely uncomfortable walking in public, but I will not let that be my excuse for not exercising any longer.  This year I will conquer the fear.  If I can get three walks in (granted they won’t be long) this week, I will be more than satisfied.

Thanks for all the well wishes regarding my step-father.  Hopefully this will be a good week for him, mom and my weight-loss.

Does it look like Spring in your area?

  1. Congrats on your weight loss this week :) I am sorry to hear that it makes you uncomfortable to walk in public :( You shouldn't have to feel that way. Listening to some music when I am going for walk helps me tune out people around me. Yes it finally feels like spring in Ottawa!! The sun makes me happy!!

    1. The sun makes me happy too! You're right, I should not feel the way I do about being in public. It's just a big hang up of mine. I don't like feeling people are looking at me and judging me. I know I can beat this get past this obstacle. It will take some time, but I will keep trying. Enjoy spring while we it's here.

  2. Yay for 5 lbs! That's great. There's really no telling how much sodium and crap our bodies get when eating out. :-/ Probably just eating meals at home was a big help. I follow one lady who started walking just one block at a time at 417 lbs. Someone once yelled at her to "go home" because she was "too fat to be outside." That makes me SO MAD. But she kept walking and kept losing. You get out there and get busy!

  3. Yes Staci, I think eating meals prepared at home was the winning factor. No more wasted years, I will be a walking fool by the end of summer. I've got to just take the first step.

    1. I'm thinking about it Jenn. I'm trying to figure out a way to stay on the program if I need to make a trip back to mom within the month of May. Good luck!
