This Week will be a Challenge, Part II

I had started a different post where I was going to speak about trying to follow the Whole30 approach starting May 1st.    That plan is being postponed and tomorrow I am heading over the mountain again to spend some time with mom.  She’s doing fine, I just want to spend some time with her and help with a few things.  I hadn’t planned on going during the middle of the week, but my manager encouraged me to just go.  He is fine with me taking time off or bringing my laptop and working from mom’s house again.  I plan to do both.  I’m starting to like this manager more and more.

I’m not sure if I’ll be gone just a few days or over a week.  I do know that eating will be a challenge.  My mom likes to feed her guests.  Since it will be just her and I, I think I will be able to convince her not to cook as much and to cut back on the carbs.  Still, I will need to be extra strong and aware of what I am putting in my mouth.  My husband told me to just eat less crap and sent the following that he found on Facebook today.   Man, I’m going to miss him.

Again, I want to thank you all for the warm wishes and comments regarding my step-father.  They touched me more than I can adequately express.

Hope you have a great Wednesday.  I’ll be in a car for six hours and hoping that Snoqualmie Pass doesn’t have snow on the road.  Talk to you from the other side.

  1. I'm sorry to hear about your stepdad. It's so hard to lose a loved one. As for food it's one day at a time and sometimes one hour at time. You got this!

    1. Thank you :) Yes, the one hour at a time is what it boils down to for me.

  2. My mom likes to feed me like it's going out of style when I visit her, so I understand the challenge! I like that reminder that your husband sent you. I am guilty of everything on the crap list, ha ha.

    1. Just the first day with mom and it's a constant barrage of her asking me if I want this or that food item. No, no and no! Like I said, this is going to be a huge challenge.

  3. How nice that you're able to work away from work! I bet your mom will love having you around. Snoqualmie Pass, huh? We must live fairly close to each other. =) I like what your husband sent you about eating less crap. hehe =)

    1. In a normal week, I work from home two days a week and in the office three days. I am grateful to have a considerate family-man kind of guy for a boss. I told him that my mom didn't really want me or my sister to come over, but said we could if we wanted. My manager encouraged me to just go and not have any regrets. I think mom is glad that I came. The fact that I am able to work while here and not use a bunch of vacation is such a bonus.

  4. Hopped over from Biz's blog to say hey! Sorry to hear about your stepdad. My boyfriend's stepdad is very similar; honest to a fault, blunt, but everytime he laughs it is infectious.

I have done a Whole30 before and I had some nice success with it. Currently eating paleo and trying to get myself back on track with my weight loss! I blog at mypaleochow.wordpress.com :)

  5. Just do you best this week - I think if you are more aware of what you are eating, that will help! Hope your travels were safe - love that CRAP v. FOOD!

And I had to say howdy to Erin! :D

    1. Thanks Biz. This morning my mom said "I think I am going to gain weight while you are here." Are you kidding me,mom? Stop trying to feed us so much and it won't be a problem. She is driving me crazy. I love her, but she is so frustratingly stubborn.

    1. Thanks Fran. The sun is shining in the Northwest and should for the next few days. Depending when I head home, I should have another beautiful ride.

  7. It can be really hard for the people around us when we start making better food choices. Change makes people uncomfortable. Sure, they mean well and don't mean to hurt, but it does. Stay strong and make good choices. Keep focused on losing the rolls. Maybe when the time is right you can have a serious discussion with your mom about your health goals so she can try and support you the best way she can. :)

  8. I think once I am home and start losing some weight, then the next time I visit mom I can give her better examples of what I am eating and why. I tried talking to her this trip, but she doesn't seem to understand that meat, vegetables and fruit is enough. I don't need bread, dairy (and she doesn't have to keep asking about each separate item), chips and sugar. Or don't finish my plate no matter how many times she tells me it will go to waste. Thanks for the advice Jenn.
