Ugly commute today as it has been raining all day.  No end in sight for the foreseeable future.   I wish it would have held off for one more day though.  We have a contractor coming over this afternoon; actually he should be here any minute, to talk about expanding our patio in the backyard and building a cover.  We have no idea how much that will cost and are hoping the quotes are in our ballpark.  I would love to have a covered patio so we can barbecue in the rain or snow.

Work was busy today and I sat at my desk too long without getting up for breaks.  Not good.  For the last few weeks, my lower back and butt have been hurting if I sit for too long.  Not sure if it is a pinched nerve or just the weight, but the butt starts to hurt and then rising to stand is painful.  I need to take more breaks I suppose.   As I mentioned yesterday, I will be working from home tomorrow.  For that reason, coming home on Thursday afternoon and knowing that I don’t have to return to the office until Tuesday, feels so good.

Okay, let’s talk about food.  I did well again today.  Well, it’s not over yet, so maybe this is premature.  Breakfast consisted of scrambled eggs, watermelon and 2 strips of bacon.  Tomorrow’s breakfast will be different, in case you are starting to think I eat the same thing every day.  I had some almonds for a mid-morning snack.  Lunch, was similar to yesterday, cucumbers, olives, ham and watermelon.  Dinner will be baked chicken, corn and either a potato or beans.  I’ll either have a salad or cook some spinach.  I normally wouldn’t want to have a starch and corn.

After stepping on the scale and seeing a gain on Tuesday, I promised myself that I would finish this week off strong no matter what.  Staying on track, for four days in a row isn’t something I’ve done in a while.  I’ll be honest, it’s getting tougher.  I have been thinking of the foods that made me this way and starting to have cravings for some of them.  I knew this would happen, so I am not surprised.  I will fight through this.  It will get tougher before it becomes easier.  I may or may not end up with a loss this week, but I will not end up with a gain.

  1. Don't worry about eating the same thing every day - lots of successful maintainers have just a few meals and the same types of foods that they cycle through consistently. It helps because you always know the calories or the fat/carb/protein ratio is being met!

    1. I think keeping it simple is the way to go for now. Anything that will have me eating meals prepared at home rather than out is a good thing.

  2. Corn IS a starch. So yeah, with a potato, that would be two starches in the meal. Same if it was beans. Just as an fyi.

Sorry to hear about the pains when sitting for long times. Hope you get that figured out.

And, well, I hate to say it, but the cravings just aren't going away until you give up grains and most sugar. (even artificial.) The brain is just wired that way, unfortunately. The cravings may ebb and flow, but won't disappear until you get rid of the grains and sugar. :(

You are doing good! Please stay tough! :)

    1. Yes Gwen, that was my point. I enjoy corn, but will not be having it very often. Same goes for the potato, but I may ease into that rule. Thanks for the encouragement, it helps.

  3. Don't get discouraged if the scales do not budge. There have been times I've eaten clean for 3 weeks straight each day and everyday and the scales didn't budge. Then BOOM, a 4 pound drop one morning and another 2.5 pounds 3 days later. The only consistent losers are on television and their workouts are six hours each day. We can't compare our results to them or we'll end up feeling defeated every time.

    1. I hear you Marc. I'll be okay if I don't show a loss. I'll take my lumps if I show a gain, and try even harder not to slip up next week.

  5. I hope you can get the patio cover. That would be wonderful for grilling in rainy or snowy weather.

    Congrats on the tracking!

  6. Remember to just focus on the moment, and getting it right in that moment. Each one of them stacks up. :) I understand the struggle though. Exciting about the patio! We're always trying to do things ourselves, and it's exhausting!

  7. I think you are doing awesome! I agree with Kyra's words on focussing on the moment. You don't have to be perfect. In my opinion, you are amazing! :)

  8. A patio cover sounds lovely! You're doing great!! I'm really proud of you for taking charge of what you're eating. It's not always fun, easy or yummy, but you're still making positive choices, good for you!

  9. I agree that you are doing great! You are taking baby steps and making great progress with preparing your own meals and making better food choices. I know the feeling about sitting all day at work. I used to get swollen ankles but I don't anymore - thank goodness, because I loathed that. The swelling stopped right about the time that I gave up processed foods. Coincidence?

I hope you get a great estimate for the patio and can swing it. That would be so exciting! Have a great weekend!

  10. @Vanessa - We don't grill as often as I would like. After a lot of research, my husband ordered a new grill. He is so excited about it, which makes me excited knowing that he will want to play with it often. Unlike my dad who will wear shorts while barbecuing during a snow storm, my husband seems to be a fair weathered griller. Okay, I am too. The covered patio would mean grilled meats and veggies year round.

@Krya - Someday I hope to do more for myself, but until I can we shell out the bucks for others to do it.

@Linda - Thank you. I've had to bite my tongue a couple of times this week to stop myself from blurting out that I want some take-out item. I know once I say it, it will likely happen. One meal at a time.

    @Erica - thank you, I'm trying.

@Sunnydaze - lately my ankles and feet are so swollen that only one pair of my shoes fit. Hopefully this will change soon. You're doing great.

  11. Weight for me can fluctuate 2 pounds a day for a variety of reasons, which is why I only weigh in once a week and then only really count the month total. You are doing great!! Now just string more of these days along and you've got this.

I have a desk job too, and I get up and walk around the office (its not that big) a couple times an hour, otherwise my lower back kills.

    Happy Friday!! Biz

  12. You have a very realistic mindset of the (sometimes ugly) truth of how this journey goes. That alone will get you far... all the way to your goal, in fact. Keep pushing! XO!

  13. Another good day for you is wonderful. Just like everyone is stating, baby steps, before you know it will become habit. Later add those habits and boom you are doing it. It all takes time and you will get there.

Good luck with the patio business. It is great to have a back patio, I love it.

    Take care
