Weigh-in: June 23, 2013

After swallowing a stupid pill last Sunday and eating back most of the weight I had lost the prior week, I posted Tuesday night and declared that I would not eat out the rest of the week.  You already know that I made it three days in a row.  Did I finish what I started and not eat out for the fourth and final day?

Yesterday was easier than I thought it would be.  I had weighed myself in the morning and was still teetering between possibly showing a weight gain this morning or a goose egg.  Therefore, I simply knew that I had to make it through the day without eating out.  For breakfast, I had an egg scramble that included bacon, red and green bell peppers and mushrooms.  I also had a cup of sliced strawberries.  Lunch was simple and contained cucumbers, carrots, black olives, ham and a Honeycrisp apple.   Dinner had a starch and dairy, but I am okay with it, since I am easing into this.  I had a baked Yukon Gold potato with LF sour cream, cheddar and green onions.  I also had some sautéed shrimp (mmmm) and opted for spinach on the side rather than the corn on the cob like my husband was eating.  I finished the night with a Swiss Miss Hot Cocoa k-cup.

Eating only meals prepared at home the last four days is a record in this household.  It’s sad, but true.  Was it enough to help me lose the weight I had gained back during the first couple of days of the week?  Yes, it was.

Previous weight:  385 lbs
Current weight:   383 lbs

While I am happy to see a loss this week, I am hoping that I learned a lesson as well.  That being, slacking off on weigh-in day or early in the week and gaining weight that you have to then re-lose before showing a loss, is not fun.  I would rather make forward progress.  I did make forward progress this week by losing two pounds, but if I hadn’t pigged out earlier in the week, I could have been further along.  To say this will never happen again is probably not realistic, but I don’t want to do it anytime soon.  This old habit of mine needs to go.

The weather this weekend has mostly been dry.  I am thankful since the forecast shows for rain the rest of the week.  I had wanted to do something outdoors, so I went over to my sister’s and played with my nephew.  My husband and I usually tag team.  He played first by pushing my nephew on the swing and then playing pirates.  After my husband was tired out, he tagged me in.  My nephew had me racing back and forth across their lawn.  By racing, I mean I walked as fast as I could without falling down.  We would each hit a plastic tee ball from the stand, then we would race to go pick up the balls and come back.  I made a deal that he had to retrieve the ball I hit and I would retrieve his.  We did this for quite a while.  After he won several times, he told me I was slow.  Duh.  I told him I was moving as fast as I could with my sore knee.  You know what this four-year old did then?  He let me win a race.  I told him not to do that, but then he did it a second time.  After the second time, I had another talk with him and told him that I am trying my best and I wanted him to always try his best.  I thanked him (with kisses and hugs) for letting me be a winner too, but told him to run his fastest.  He tired me out, but it was nice to get some activity.

Hope you enjoyed your weekend.   Now, let’s make this a great week!

    1. Thanks Marc. He's very compassionate. After a few races, I told him I needed a break and rested for a couple of minutes. Then after several more races he asked if I needed another break. While he would let me take a break, he didn't want to quit.

  2. Congrats on the weight loss. We used to eat out a lot more before I started losing weight. Even though I know what choices to make when I go out, it really can be tough. At home, I find I have more control over the portions and sodium in the foods

    1. Thanks. I'm not sure that I would make the best choices when eating out right now. I'm sure I'm bound to eat out before long, but in the meantime I plan to stick to the same routine for as long as I can.

  3. You did great! And you know what to do for an even better result next week. So I'm hoping you follow your wise advice up there for this upcoming week. I'd love for you to end the summer in a very happy lighter way.

    And you know, when you're saying no to indulgences, it's most likely when I'm saying no to the same things too. We people who already lost our weight have to keep saying no in the very same way. So you're in good company. :D

  4. That is great on the weight loss! I knew you could do it. It is amazing to think back to how much take-out I used to get before changing my eating habits. It seems you had some victories and not just on the scale. I am really proud of you!

  5. I am so proud of you! You reached all your goals and more! My husband and I used to eat out every single night. Literally. It's really really hard to give up. Not just the tasty food, but the fact that you don't have to prepare anything. We can do it, Keep up the great work!

    1. Thank you Lydia. I believe you about eating out every night, my husband and I are the same way. Most weeks, we would have at least two meals out per day several days a week. I doubt the habit can be broke in just one week, but we will try to keep cooking and eating at home.

  6. Yay!! Two more pounds gone! I love that you're eating fresh, whole foods. How's the hunger? It sounds like you had a great time with your nephew, and he sounds like such a sweet child (letting you win). Here's to another successful week!

    1. Thanks Erica! Hunger hasn't been too bad actually and no cravings today, so that's good. My nephew has the best manners and I love him to pieces.

  8. Congrats n the weight loss, despite the early start! Doing well! And your nephew is a treasure. :)

    When eating out, you might want to consider requesting 'no added salt'. It's made a real difference for me. :)

  9. Every good decision made me stronger. When I challenged myself (like you did) and won - I knew I could do it the next time.

    You can do this by continuing to make those good decisions. Congrats on the loss!

  11. First of all, I love how positive this post ended up being - you realized your mistake, pulled up your boot straps and stuck with cooking at home for 4 days in a row - that's awesome!

    And I love the tag team approach to hanging out with your nephew - great workout indeed!

    Here's to both of us having a great week!

  12. Excellent job not eating out! Your food choices sound very sensible, too. We've all gained back what we've lost repeatedly...you are not alone!

    We usually eat out twice over the weekend. It really is possible to make a healthy choice no matter where you go. Many times, I ask for a take-out box as soon as the food arrives. I pack up half before I ever start eating. If I leave it on the plate, I'll eat it! Believe it or not, I can sit in a Tex Mex restaurant and only eat 1 chip! Then, I sit on my hands :)

  13. Way to go on not eating out and getting some fun outdoor activity! That is the way to really live a healthy lifestyle. I let myself eat out once a week - even though there are healthy options out there we just never REALLY know what's in the food we get at a restaurant. Great job!!

  14. @Gwen - Thanks. By the looks of my ankles, I need to find ways to reduce salt and drink more water.

    @Diane - Thank you, I will continue to challenge myself. I think small goals or challenges will help keep me motivated.

    @Kyra - Thank you :)

    @Biz - I hope to continue eating at home more than we eat out. Good luck this week.

    @Kaki - I've wanted to ask for the to-go box when my meal has arrived, but just haven't had the nerve. I will work on that as the meals are usually more than one person should eat at a single sitting. 1 chip sounds impossible, maybe I should try sitting on my hands too.

    @Tina - Thank you. I have been and am still very sedentary. I'm trying to force myself to go outdoors more this summer and be more active. My nephew affords me the perfect excuse.

    @Tina -

  19. Finally got the opportunity to come and check you out. And WOW I am so proud of you. I knew you would get there. Like everyone is saying just one small step at a time. Just look you have several days behind you that you are proud of.

    Just awesome.

    Keep moving and you will get there.

    Until later.....
