Doing better, except

It’s the middle of the week so I thought I would check in.  My eating so far has been better.  It’s been better than last week by a long shot.   I’ve been eating mostly meals prepared at home this week.  The only exception has been lunch at the office.  Yesterday’s lunch was a six-inch sub and a small bowl of fruit.  Today, I only had a sandwich.  Tonight we’re having salad and leftover stew.  I asked my husband to cut the portion size of the stew and make six portions instead of four.  The fact that we’re sticking to one portion at meal time is a BIG improvement for us.

Evening snacking is still an issue, but I’m cutting back.  Last night I had a conversation with hubby about the ice-cream bars.   Oh those ice-cream bars are so dreamy.  I wish my sister would not have discovered and shared them with us.  I told him that they are too much of a temptation right now to be in the house.  If they are here, I will eat them.  We agreed that he would not buy any next week and then only one box the following week.  I think this approach will help us both.  I think he could go without an evening snack easier than I could, or so he keeps telling me.  If that is the case and the ice cream isn’t in the house I think I will do much better.  We’re going to try drinking hot tea instead.  We’ve done it before and survived, so we can do it again.

Exercise is not happening right now.  It’s on my mind a lot and I have some desire to move more.  Right now though, I am not going to worry about it.  If it happens, it happens.  This month my focus is on the food.  Once I get a decent handle on my eating I will kick up the activity.  Hopefully my knee pain will lessen by the time I am ready to start.

Thanks for all the great comments on my last post.  They really picked up my spirits and help motivate me to be stronger this week.  You guys are GREAT!

That’s about all I have for today.  How’s your week going so far?  Will it be a successful one?

  2. I didn't do exercise when I first started my diet as I wanted to figure the food stuff out first as well. Especially if you are experiencing knee pain. I hope it eases off!

You are taking it a day at a time!! That is the way to go!! I am proud of you!!

  3. Reading between the lines, it sounds like you are really eating a lot less calories. You say it so modestly, but all those calories no longer eaten really add up into pounds lost. You keep doing this, and you'll be very happy with yourself. :D

  4. @Mrs Swan - That's great news, keep up the good work.

@Linda H - Yes, I'm still in the one-day-at-a-time mode and will be until I learn to control myself better.

@Marion - I'm sure that I am eating fewer calories, since the food isn't fried and we're eating smaller portion. I would like to get back to using MyFitnessPal and tracking my calories better for awhile so that I can know exactly how I am doing. Thank you.

  5. I've read that losing weight is mostly what we eat with a little exercise thrown in.

  6. Nice job this week! :) You know, giving ip that evening snack is hard at first, but then your brain gets with it and it's hard to have one. Isn't that wild?

  7. You are so aware of what you are doing. This is what it is all about. You are doing it. It certainly takes time and you will get there. As for exercising, I totally understand you in that area. I also am suffering with my knee, (bone on bone issue), so for me it is a problem. Just got to keep a positive attitude, there are times it is difficult but a lot of support it is doable. Great job on the portion control.

    Many hugs

  8. I agree with Anna Marie - You are aware of what you are doing and getting your head straight first is 3/4 of the battle. You are making great progress whether you feel like it or not. Keep up the good work! :)

  9. The important thing is to be taking steps forward, and you are. In time, you will be ready to tackle exercise. Right now, continue to get the eating part down pat. It's what's most important, anyhow. Good job!

  10. Roxy, I am so happy you are going to the the Diet Bet this month! I hope money is a motivator for you - only half the participants made goal in the last DietBet I did - that was only 8 people and now its 29! $$$

Take it one day at a time - can you do a favor for me today? Can you walk around your block three times today? I know you can do it!

And for the record, ice cream bars are insulin worthy to me, so I try not to keep them in the house either! :D

    Hugs!!

  11. I love that you had a talk with your husband about bringing ice cream into the house. I had to do the same thing and it really does help when it's not around... out of sight, out of mind. It's great that you're cutting back on your portions sizes, too. You're doing great!!!
