I can't see any clouds



Something happened at work today that bothered me more than it should have.  It’s work stuff, nothing related to weight or food, but has me feeling anxious and/or stressed when I really shouldn’t be.  I’m sure once I talk it over some with husband my nerves will be calmed.  The only reason I am mentioning it now is because 1) I don’t really have anything else to say and 2) it has me wanting to seek comfort in food.  

So far today I haven’t made any bad food choices, but it has been a struggle.  I want chocolate and I want it NOW.  Well maybe it doesn’t need to be chocolate, something salty sounds good too, oh heck everything sounds good.  Fortunately, I am aware of the situation and realize hunger is not the issue.  Stress has me wanting food.  I will try to keep myself busy with things other than food until the feeling passes.

The sun is still shining and I love it.  The seven day forecast only includes sun.  Do I believe it?  No.  It is rare to have a sunny, warm day in Seattle on the 4th of July.  I will believe it, when I see it.  I would love this year to be an exception and will enjoy the sun while it is here.  We plan to spend the 4th with my sister, brother-in-law and cute little nephew up at the campsite.  We have trailers parked next to each other less than an hour from our home in a private campground.  It will be nice to spend some time outdoors, and I am sure my nephew will keep us busy.  Playing with him will help keep me from snacking or grazing all day.

I don’t really want to talk about it right now, but I am playing catch-up again this week.  Meaning, I overate the first two days of this week and my weight is up since my last weigh-in.  It happened.  It’s done.  I’m working on it.

Like I said I don’t really have much to say today, just wanted to check in and keep my hands busy for a bit.   Only one more work day this week for me and I am excited to have a four-day weekend.  Hope your week is going well.

  2. Well, don't feel bad or alone in your thoughts of wanting food to deal with stress. My mind is all over food today due to a stressful situation. It is our automatic reflex!

    Good job for reversing the last two days! It is good to catch it and you did. :)

There is something about a work issue that can eat at you way worse than any other kind of problem, I've dealt with it myself, and it says a lot about how far you've come that you didn't dive into a bag of oreos. I hope you recognize what amazing progress you're making, and that you're proud of yourself because you should be! I also hope you have a FANTASTIC time with your family, enjoy your mini vacation!

  4. Can you get out and take a walk, or do something physical? That really helps with stress. :)

  5. I agree with Gwen. I find that walking or some kind of exercise really helps with the stress and food cravings. Its hard to start but once you do, you will be amazed how good you feel. Have a nice holiday!

  6. Totally understand the stress, it can be brutal. The above suggestions are great, any chance you have a water cooler? Get up, even walk around the office, grab some water, even if you just go to the ladies room. Ours here at work are private ones, I sometimes go in them and just sit for a moment, even do some "potty squats" just to release some steam. (Potty squats = using the handicap bars, hold on and do squats) Remember our bathrooms are singles and are also handicapped. But at our old place I would still do this in the handicapped stall.

  7. Sorry about the thing at work. You are making great progress in recognizing your urge to emotionally eat and that is huge. It took me a long time to deal with my emotional eating and binges; although I'm so much better I still, and always will struggle with it.

    I'm glad to hear that you have sun. It has been rainy and gloomy here for well over a week now. I'm so tired of it.

  9. Cravings are really hard! I try to keep my mouth full of something else (like grapes) until it subsides. A little chocolate is okay, though. The willpower to put the rest down...that's another story. Heh.

  10. I hope that whatever happened has settled now. I hate when those situations come up, and they throw everything upside down. I understand the food cravings because of it too! I hope you have a great 4th!

  11. I reach for food when I'm anxious and unsettled, too... I try to remember (although I don't always..) that it's OK to feel anxious. Feeling anxious is not going to kill me, but I still don't like it! My boys have a punching bag...sometimes I like to beat the shit out of it! (not for exercise, but to release the stress!)

  12. That happened to me two weeks ago: I was stressed over a work situation and wanted to eat from frustration. I talked it over with the hubby and that helped. Sometimes privately writing about those types of stresses helps too. Hope you are enjoying the rest of your weekend.
