After eating way too much last Sunday following my weigh-
in, I knew that I had to play catch up to re-lose a pound or two gained that
day before I could work on losing more weight this week. I seem to do that a lot. It’s not fun.
Since Sunday, I have been making better choices. Mostly this means I have not been giving in
to temptations or cravings this week. We
did go out for Mexican dinner Wednesday night, but I ate fewer chips and less food
during the meal than I normally would and ate well the rest of the day. I’ve done better with my eating the rest of
the days and feel strong going into this weekend.

My husband has been grilling a lot this week (protein and
veggies) and following more of the recipes in the diabetic friendly cookbook/magazine
that he purchased a couple of weeks ago.
Our dinner plates have been containing ½ non-starchy vegetables, ¼ proteins
and ¼ starches (sweet potato fries). We’ve
also been having egg scrambles for breakfast that have been loaded with bell
peppers, mushrooms, green onions and spinach. My lunches have been loaded with raw veggies
including bell peppers, carrots and cucumbers.
I’ve cut back on the taffy (we won’t buy more) and having fewer or
smaller snacks. While I have reduced the
taffy and ice-cream bar intake, I will continue to work on eliminating these
items from my weekly consumption. I
would like them to be more of a rare treat.
Knowing that I have a tendency to throw out the rules on
weigh-in day and have a food free-for-all, I am going in to this weekend with
my eyes wide open and hopefully my mouth closed. Tonight I will plan out our meals for the
next couple of days and get my husband’s buy-in. I know we can still enjoy ourselves without
indulging in all the usual high-fat and starchy foods our Sundays have come to
be.
Other than trying to stay on track with my food choices, I
don’t have any plans this weekend. Maybe
I will head to the movies; I haven’t been to a theater in quite some time. What are your plans? Hope you have a nice and relaxing weekend.
I'm so happy for you! I love all the positive changes you and your husband are making. =) I threw the rest of our taffy in the trash yesterday. I haven't had any for a few days, but I was getting tired of looking at it sitting there, taunting me. You should definitely go to the movies, it'll be a fun treat! I have to snack at the movies, so if you're not shy about sneaking in a snack or two, try some air popped popcorn, or a stick of your favorite gum and a bottle of cold water. I've even taken carrot sticks and cheese cubes.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm not ready to just throw the taffy out. Good for you though!
DeleteSounds like you are doing better, and maybe getting into a nice groove!
ReplyDeleteTomorrow I'm going to go scope out smaller home gyms. Sunday, we go with my mom to the Del Mar race track. Can't wait!
Have a good one, and make us proud (and yourself!) on Sunday!
Thanks Gwen, it does seem like I am stringing more good days than bad together. Have fun at the races.
DeleteHi Roly! Your food choices seem to keep improving, which is really good. Watch portion sizes too, if you aren't already doing that.
ReplyDeleteI used to do that free-for-all thing after weigh-in too, until I realized that is sabotaged my progress so much that I stopped be cause I deserved to lose my weight. You deserve to lose your weight too. :D
:-) Marion
Thanks Marion. I am definitely watching the portion sizes and husband is helping with that too. He only bakes one portion of sweet potato fries for me so there is no chance of me asking for more.
DeleteI did that when I was pregnant too. I would eat too much during the month, try to slow down the week before seeing the doctor and the day of my appointment was a food free for all. All told I gained about 30 pounds each time which my doctor considered good. Still, I stressed about each trip I made because of the scale. :(
ReplyDelete30 lbs per pregnancy is good :) I need to eat better consistently. That would eliminate this panic mode the last day or two before weigh-in.
DeleteYou are doing great! It's so awesome that you and your hubby are doing this together. We are all going to slip and fall, but you got right back up and did even better than before. You should be so proud! Keep up the great work!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lydia. I'm grateful that my husband is willing to cook, otherwise we would be eating out all the time. I need to start cooking too before he gets burned out.
DeleteIt sounds like you are doing really well! All that grilling has got to help too (we ran out of gas for our grill and we keep forgetting to pick up another canister!)
ReplyDeleteThanks Kyra. I hate running out of gas and it happened too many times. We have two tanks so you would think we would fill the empty tank before the other runs out, but...
DeleteI'm so happy I finally found your blog.. it wasn't as easy as I thought it would be. Can't wait to get all caught up and get to know you a little better.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you're heading in the right direction. :)
Welcome Joanna, glad you stopped by. I frequent your blog as often as I can and know you have some great info. I look forward to following the journey.
DeleteHi, just hopped over from Marcs blog.
ReplyDeleteYou seem to be doing well and remember it's not a race, just take one day at at time and I'm sure you'll get there.
Love the sound of grills. Meat, fish with great non starchy vegetables sounds delicious to me.
All the best Jan
Thanks Jan, I have a lot of bad habits regarding food but I am working on it. It will be a long journey. Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteWoo-hoo! You're doing great!
ReplyDeleteI do better planning just a few days ahead. Of course, I generally eat the same few meals over and over, so it's really a matter of making sure I have my salad makings on hand. :)
Congrats on minus 3! I can't tell you how many women at WW would WI and then go to IHOP and eat whatever they wanted because they "had a whole week" to lose it. Hope this weekend is better for you!
ReplyDeleteSeeing my Mom, daughter and SIL tomorrow for a street fest - lots of walking tomorrow which I am looking forward to!
