Focusing on the Positive

This morning I weighed in for two reasons, one being that Sunday is my chosen weigh-in day and secondly because hubby and I both wanted to see how we had done while he was away on business travel.  I'm both happy and not so happy about the number I saw on the scale.  I weighed in today at 383 lbs, which is one pound less than last Sunday.  I was wishing and kind of expecting more of a loss, like at least two pounds.  While I am worried that my weight loss is going to be way slower than I want, the truth is that this is just the result of one week and it's way to early to become discouraged especially after following an eight pound loss the previous week.  Looking at the positive side, I did lose twelve pounds over the sixteen days my husband was away.

For me, the I-don't-cook gal, the twelve pounds is a fantastic success.  The result is entirely contributed to me hunkering down and cooking for myself.  Only one time, and that was the second day in, did I eat a meal that I did not prepare myself.   I think my husband is in shock over this fact and of course, now he wants to know when I will be cooking for him.

Worried (big time worried) that we might revert to our bad eating habits once he returned, I had groceries delivered yesterday with meal ideas in mind for the whole week.  Some of the meals will have leftovers that we can either enjoy at lunchtime or save ourselves some mid-week cooking.  Buying the food and having a soft plan in place is only part of the battle.   Actually cooking and eating the food after a long work day rather than stopping at our regular restaurant will take some strength.  There are sure to be many inner dialogue battles waged this week as I work to keep myself on track.

Today, we're taking it easy so that he can rest his body.  We're also waiting for his luggage to be delivered.  His first plane was late to arrive in Seoul, so he had to hustle to his connecting flight.  He made it, but his bag was not so lucky.  It's good to have him home again, real good.

Hope you all have a great week.  Thanks again for all of the wonderful support.

  1. Another pound ???? that is awesome!!! Nothing to be disappointed about ... That's worth getting up and doing a jig!!! Celebrate every single pound lost! Much better to loose one than find 2! And way to go with all that cooking! When my hubby is out of town ... I can't make my self cook for just myself ... I think it shows you on the right path! Great job this week! I look forward to your progress!

    1. Dropping is always better than picking up some weight, so yes I will do the jig with you! On past occasions where I was left to fend for myself, I would eat out often. Not this time, I focused on my goal and got it done. Thanks for the support!

I can feel it, I'm just saying.
You're honoring yourself with an amazing effort and it's paying off wonderfully. You'll keep reaping the rewards. Don't become discouraged, my friend--because you're making incredible strides. Consistency and never giving up--and you're in for a miraculous transformation. I'm so overjoyed for you and happy your husband was so surprised! Very happy for you two! This is like a new beginning! :)

    1. Sean, your encouragement means a lot to me and causes me to believe I can do it this time. The one pound loss is worrisome to me because on many past efforts, my weight loss was slow. Maybe I didn't find the right calorie budget or perhaps my diabetes and thyroid issues are messing with my metabolism. Whatever the case may be, this time I plan to stick it out. Thank you for being the living inspiration that you are and for helping me on my journey.

  3. You are doing amazing! And for the record, when I lost my 70 pounds back in 1999 - there were WEEKS that I would only lose .4, .5, etc., and then all of a sudden I'd lose 5 pounds.

You just have to look at the big picture - YOU LOST 12 POUNDS IN 16 DAYS! Awesome.

p.s. just tell yourself that it would be bad to waste $$ on food eating out when you already have food at home - a soft plan is a plan, no matter how you look at it!

    1. Thanks Biz. Oh my, my husband and I are could win prizes for how much money we waste. It would be nice to spend the money on other things rather than buying food that we don't eat. Hopefully we can make a change in that department.

  4. If you have thyroid issues, the weight loss will be slower, overall....well, check with your doctor, let him/her know you are losing weight seriously now, and maybe get a re-check on your T levels. A medication dosage change might be necessary.

The less starches and sugars you eat, the faster the weight will fall off. Absolutely!!!

I AM SO PROUD OF YOU!!!! Keep cooking! You are going to save money, also! :)

  6. You know, even if the weight loss is slow... the truth is that time is going to pass. December this year and then next year and the year after that is going to come. You can meet those days, months, years having lost weight or not, and it's your choice. Even if it's slow, even if it takes a long time, well, that time is going to pass anyway, so what does it matter if it's slow? As long as it's in the right direction? Fantastic!

  7. Thanks for the reminder Kyra! You are so right. How many times have I looked back and wished that I had lost this weight last year, five years, ten years or twenty years ago. If I am losing even at a slow pace, then I am at least moving forward and not maintaining or gaining to this obese body.

  8. Wow!! 12 lbs. in 16 days ia amazing! 8 lbs. in one week is unheard of. You are doing so well! Making a plan and having the food on hand is most of the battle. Soon, NOT stopping at the restaurant will be routine. Every time you cook for yourselves, you are showing yourselves kindness. You are affirming the fact that you are worth the effort. Congratulations!!

    1. Thanks Kaki. We stopped to eat out tonight, but it was our first time since he has been home and my first time in over three weeks. Back to the plan tomorrow.

  9. Great job! It's easy to get scale obsessed on this journey. Sometimes your losses will inexplicably build up and fall off all at once. I know for me it takes 30 solid days of being true to my eating plan before the wl starts. You are losing and making all the right choices. :-) keep regular Dr appts. Most of all..don't get discouraged. It's a new lifestyle. It will work. Your body will get more and more efficient as you lose and put nutritious fuel in it more consistently. Great job.

    1. I do see my doctor often. I'm diabetic and started insulin injections this year, so still working out the routine. You are so right about the scale, I will keep working on being less dependent on it. Thanks Kristina!
