October is just about half way through. How is time flying by so quickly? Holy cow!
Unfortunately, I am not off to a good start for this month. The bad news is that I have gained a couple
of pounds and am now only three pounds away from my highest weight ever. The good news is… well there isn’t any good
news…yet. I have been eating and feeling
like crap. I feel heavy and my back and knees
hurt. I’m not one to get depressed, but have been feeling down. The feelings are mostly around not losing
weight sooner and not taking care of my diabetes sooner. I have a lot of regrets due to my weight and
most of the time I am fine letting them go and moving forward. However, the longer I keep the weight on the
more I am losing out of life. I’m not
having a pity party here, just mentioning how I am doing. I know my weight represents the choices I
have and continue to make. I am the only
one that can change things here, and one of these days I will.
Speaking of Diabetes, I had blood work done on Friday and
received the results via automatic email.
My A1C was 9.8. That is the
highest it has ever been and does not surprise me at all. My doctor would prefer this number to be
<7 and is sure to contact me soon to start insulin. I have fought her on this for too long and
will stop resisting. I always thought I
would control my blood sugar levels by diet, but that never happened. I take a bunch of oral medications and now
insulin is probably my only option left.
Gosh, I have been stupid.
This post may sound negative and I didn’t really intend for
that or for it too sound whiny. I have
been absent and the above kind of speaks to my mood and why I might not have had
anything to post about. My husband and I
are determined to have a better week and will hopefully turn things
around. We have a menu plan for the week
and have prepped some of the food. If I actually
eat the food we have instead of eating out it will be a successful week.

How is October working out for you? Here’s to turning things around and finishing
the month off strong!
You've got to turn this around. Don't let yourself get emotional about your food. Keep your food calculations as a cold-hearted thing. Food journal--even on your very worst days. I wish there was an easy way, but I do food journaling, calorie counting, water drinking, exercising, and going to TOPS meetings--all of these things because it is NOT easy. Not for me. Use all of these tools to help you. Make food rules that you make yourself follow. Overall, honestly pledge to honor, respect, and love yourself more than food. As always, I want you to do well.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry things haven't been going well for you! I understand your disappointment, but I know you can turn this around. You will find the way that you can follow consistently, if you keep trying. Please let me know if there's anything I can do to help, even if it's only to listen.
ReplyDeleteListen to Marion, she has such wonderfu advice and suggestions. I totally agree with her, you must do something NOW. Because of Marion, I am now back to food journaling, even if it is a horrible day, I make sure I write it all down. You may think, heck still write it down when I have over indulge? Well let me say this, it will hit you and make you think of what is going in your mouth next.
ReplyDeletePlease think about it......it just may help you
Many hugs,
I'm sorry it's been a bad start, but you can kick it into gear and finish out October feeling great! You always have the opportunity to make things better today, so there's that. :)
ReplyDeleteI appreciate your honesty. I have to go back to the doctor in a couple of weeks, and I am really nervous about having to start on diabetes medicine.

Hey, these are super comments, and I echo them all (especially the bit about loving 'you' more than food - very good advice) You know, you CAN turn things around and make October a month to celebrate. It isn't too late.
ReplyDeleteJust try not to let it all get you too down and keep in mind that old thing about every journey starting with a single step... it truly does help, as every step (no matter how little) gets you a bit further to where you want to be.
As to the HbA1c and the prospect going onto insulin - OK, you may need to do that for now... but that does NOT mean forever. As the weight comes off and you cut the sugar and grains to reduce your carb load you 'should' find that your bloods improve. Next review you might surprise your doc with the results enough to discuss other ways to control this thing, maybe just with diet - you never know. Oh, by the way, you are NOT stupid!
It really can happen too. My Type II hubby went from a daily pill-overload (including Metformin, statins and other crap) to no meds at all when he lost his weight - he's still diabetic (and, sadly, always will be and we can't ever 'cure' that) but under good strict control just with diet these days - and we still record his food intake and blood glucose several times daily, every day even now.
Thanks for stopping by to give me some much needed support too - much appreciated.

It's true - the only one that can make the change for yourself, is well, you. Don't look back, you can't change anything, just make each day the best you can, and when you string enough of those good days together, you'll see good things happen.
ReplyDeleteWish I lived near you - I'd be your walking buddy for sure! Here's to not ordering out the rest of the week! :D
This weight loss thing....it goes in cycles.....we do good.....we don't do good......remember........you have the power in you to turn it all around. Love yourself enough to want to do it! We all go through what you go through. Believe in yourself!
ReplyDeleteIn your world of trying to break out of crappy habits, if there is one less "crappy" thing you can focus on doing everyday, then you're on a roll. You can do this, girl. So what's it gonna be? What's that one less crappy thing you will do today? Just one. xo
ReplyDeleteYou have got to turn this around. It is possible to turn it around. You need to be strong and say I can do it. Look, read, listen to those who have done it, my husband for one and many people we know. The hardest part is you taking control. These sites are ours and may help you.

All the best Jan
Have you considered weight loss surgery? It has completely changed my life. While it is NOT the easy way out, I think it should be a last resort. With your health risks, I think it should be something to consider. It's just another tool (like food journaling, nutritionist, etc) to lose the weight and more importantly, to keep it off. Just a thought.
ReplyDeleteHey, just wondered how things are at the moment?
ReplyDeleteWhen you are ready - looking forward to reading November news.
Take care
All the best Jan
