We had a meal plan and were doing great. Then came Thursday, our last day in the
office (we work from home Friday and Monday) after a busy week and the commute
conversation turned to dinner. We
stopped for Mexican food. My arm seemed
to be robotic, constantly going from the chip basket, to the salsa to my mouth
and back to the basket.
Stepped on the
scale this morning and saw the damage from last night. It was the usual hiccup and now I am playing
catch-up the last two days before weigh-in.
My weight loss journey continues to resemble a roller coaster’s up,
down, up down. When you get right down
to it, it’s all about the choices I make.
If I want to see more downs than ups, I need to have fewer hiccups. If I don’t mind the slower progress I can
choose to continue eating the same way.
No big plan for this weekend and that is fine with me, for
now. My sister will be camping so I may
head up there for a few hours to visit and play with my nephew. If do go up there, I will have to be careful
with my eating and let her know that I don’t want to be offered any
treats. Even though the knee is still
bothering me, I want to do some walking this weekend. It may be for fifteen minutes or less, but I
want to start moving. My ankles have
been in a swollen state for a couple of months now which has limited my shoe
options. My blood needs to be circulated
yo!
It’s Friday! Hope you
have a great weekend.
Sometimes with those kinds of foods, not taking that first bite is the only way to avoid overeating them. I'm that way with sweets ...
ReplyDeleteThat is such a true statement. Sweets are my downfall.
ReplyDeleteHi Roly! Well, what you explained above is the very reason that I RARELY go to eat out at restaurants. I just eat to much no matter which type of restaurant we pick. So you're definitely not alone in being robotic at restaurants.
ReplyDeleteI love what you said: "When you get right down to it, it’s all about the choices I make. If I want to see more downs than ups, I need to have fewer hiccups." And I would add, keep the hiccups as small as possible. When I stopped overeats as fast as possible so they were smaller overeats, that really made a huge difference in losing weight.
Overall, I think you are doing very well. And you seem to be coaching yourself with good advice. :D
:-) Marion
Thanks Marion. I know "what to do" it's just the doing it part that I am stuck on. I agree that stopping an overeating session and not continuing to make the situation worse is better.
DeleteHiccups are expected, the only way to do this without any hiccups is to lock yourself in a room with only celery and water for the next year. You are doing an amazing job. Keep up the great work!
ReplyDeleteOh, I would be sure to die after two months. I would eat the celery for a day and then just give up and starve to death. I hear you though.
DeleteYup, hiccups are part of of life but your attitude is fantastic! If you look back, you have come a long way!! :)
ReplyDeleteWeight loss is never easy. We meet challenges every day. As Marion said, sometimes it's easier to avoid the challenges. They only thing to do now is learn from it and move on. Do not let it set you back. You will do this, it will just take some time.
ReplyDeleteSorry your knee is still bothering you. Don't overdo it this weekend.
I hear ya!! I am having one of those weeks too. Even as I am eating I know I am gong over calorie intake and trying figure what is bothering me?? Eating healthy is going to be a constant battle. I hope you have a good weekend :).
ReplyDeleteI love what Lydia said! For years I tried a version of the celery and water route (or that's what it felt like, anyway), and I always failed, of course! I'd much rather LIVE and make mistakes than sit at home with a stalk of celery clenched in my fist. :)
ReplyDeleteRoly, we've all had slip ups from time to time and I think it's unrealistic to think that we won't. Just remember, tomorrow is a brand new day.
ReplyDeleteThanks Rachael. You're right, life happens or I get in the way sometimes. I need to just keep going and make better choices.
DeleteI can't have the first bite either, because it's all over once I do that. So, unless I planned for it, I don't even try it. (When i'm behaving myself, that is...) Also remember that you can't gain from one meal like that, what you're looking at is waterweight and other things. It takes consistency to gain weight just as it takes it to lose weight. Weigh once a week, stop trying to punish yourself with a number on the scale. Your healthy habits are the real goal here!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with everyone else especially Rachael. Ok you slipped up, just dust it off and move on. Just keep in mind to do your best.
ReplyDeleteYou need to remember that you have chosen to live healthier. Don't let one slip up keep you on the path of destruction. Think of the now and the future.
Many hugs
